Resolutions of support for OIHCD Levy passed by Orcas Community Resource Center and Lopez Island Hospital District

As part of the mission of ensuring access for all islanders and visitors, the Orcas Island Health Care District (OIHCD) collaborates with and supports local community-based organizations like the Orcas Community Resource Center (OCRC). Additionally, our collaboration regionally with other public entities, like the Lopez Island Hospital District (LIHD), ensures that we find financially sustainable ways to continue to serve our community.

OCRC provides critical support to many different populations on our island, and is the primary location that offers Medicaid enrollment for our islanders. OIHCD voted to support OCRC’s Medical Access programs with a small grant in 2025. More information on that grant support can be found in our 2025 budget.

In their resolution of support, OCRC comments that “ensuring long-term access to healthcare and a resilient community wellness network aligns with OCRC’s vision of a strong, connected island community where all people have the opportunity to thrive”, and that, “OCRC regularly serves clients who benefit directly from the presence of a stable island clinic, including those who face transportation, financial, or health barriers to seeking care off-island;…” The full OCRC statement of support can be found on their website - https://orcascrc.org/f/resource-center-board-supports-health-care-district-levy-lift

LIHD was formed shortly prior to OIHCD, and shares a similar strategic mission as OIHCD. Both hospital districts, as well as San Juan County Health & Community Services and San Juan County Hospital District #1 have collaborated closely over the last several years. This collaboration aligns hospital district and community initiatives and helps to ensure we maximize tax dollars to serve our communities.

In their resolution of support, LIHD comments that “OIHCD, like LIHD,  faces similar challenges as a rural and remote district, including significant healthcare costs and the need for sustainable funding to ensure continued access to essential healthcare services,” and that, “OIHCD has demonstrated leadership throughout San Juan County in advancing health care initiatives, improving healthcare resources, and addressing the common needs of all islands...” For their full statement of support, their resolution can be found on their website - https://lopezislandhd.org/lihd-board-shows-support-for-orcas-island-health-care-districts-levy-lid-lift-measure/
